Michigan football recruit Dillon Tatum tweeted out the date of January 1st and it’s likely a new top list.

Dillon Tatum is one of the top targets on the board for Michigan football‘s 2022 class and the Wolverines will find out something about his recruitment soon.

That’s because Tatum, the four-star athlete out of West Bloomfield, Michigan, tweeted out the date of January 1st, which is probably an indication of a new top list. It could mean something else like a decision but that seems unlikely that this point in the process.

Although you never know, the Michigan football team has picked up a pair of 2022 commitments since early signing day in Davone Miles and Connor Jones. Anyway, here’s the tweet from Tatum.

Tatum is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound athlete who has been recruited as both a running back and a defensive back by the Wolverines. He’s ranked as the No. 12 athlete in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and No. 246 overall.

Yet, Tatum is also a top-five player in the state of Michigan and right now, even though it’s still early, it feels like it’s setting up to be a key recruiting battle between the Wolverines and rival Michigan State.

Mel Tucker and the Spartans have done a very good job with Tatum and in November, the Spartans picked up a pair of Futurecast picks projecting the West Bloomfield product to MSU.

However, momentum does seem to have swung back in the favor of the Wolverines and shortly after signing day, Clayton Sayfie of Rivals joined fellow U-M recruiting reporter EJ Holland in predicting Tatum to Michigan.

Ohio State is recruiting Tatum as a corner and it seems like Michigan has started to go down that path more. Some other big schools are in the mix as well as Georgia, USC, Florida, Notre Dame and some other big-name programs.

His recruitment has turned national but it still seems the Wolverines and Michigan State are the two teams to beat and with Edwards committing to Michigan, the Wolverines have a definite ace up their sleeve. Or at least, it seems that way, especially since Tatum was one of the few spectators allowed at Edwards’ announcement according to Holland.

And if Tatum is releasing a top list on Friday, I would be shocked if Michigan football wasn’t listed as a final contender.
