Getting a deal done with Jim

This probably should have been first on the list because getting a long-term deal done with Harbaugh should be the No. 1 priority. But there is a feeling that it’s going to eventually happen.

However, the longer things play out the greater chance an NFL team could decide Harbaugh is the man for the job and offer him a position that would take him away from Michigan.

Some Michigan football fans would probably be happy about that because they want Harbaugh replaced with someone like Iowa State’s Matt Campbell and I have to admit, it will be painful if the Wolverines pass on him, only to see him become elite at another school.

At the end of the day though, I still have some belief in Harbaugh. He landed his five-star quarterback in J.J. McCarthy and with the trio of McCarthy, Edwards and Xavier Worthy were game-changing additions to this program.

My biggest fear is Harbaugh trying to go into next season as a lame-duck coach as some sort of negotiating ploy because he doesn’t want to accept an offer of lower base salary.

That’s the one thing Michigan can’t have. Harbaugh either needs to be extended (very soon) or the program needs to move on for good.

So clarity at head coach I guess, is the last thing on the Christmas wish list.
