Steve Clinkscale

Steve Clinkscale is not as well known as some others names on this list, but Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider ($) included him on his own top six list and he makes a ton of sense.

Clinkscale is the defensive backs coach at Kentucky right now and dating back to last year, when Michigan football needed a new safeties coach, he was a name in the mix and with his ties to Ohio (he was born in Youngstown), he would be a great get for the recruiting trail.

He’s been on the staff of Mark Stoops and went to the Wildcats after a stint at Cincinnati where he spent a few years on staff and one year as the defensive coordinator in 2015. Like Banks, he’s done an exceptional job recruiting the state of Ohio and UK has done well in Michigan too.

Clinkscale has developed a lot of talented players at Kentucky and I’m confident that he would do a good job as coordinator and getting someone that’s learned under the Stoops isn’t a bad thing.

Obviously, he doesn’t have the same experience on his resume as Muschamp and some of the others on this list, but truth be told, any of these four candidates would be a successful hire.
