Michigan baseball redshirt sophomore, Steven Hajjar gives Michigan a Preseason All-American as they look to get back to the College World Series.

Michigan baseball is looking to get back to the College World Series after falling to Vanderbilt in game three of the national championship series in 2019 and has a Preseason All-American to help them get there.

Steven Hajjar, a left-handed pitcher who made four starts in his freshman season, going 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA was named to the Collegiate Baseball 2021 All-American second team.

Hajjar was Big Ten freshman and pitcher of the week after his first start against 9th-ranked Arizona State where he threw six shutout innings, striking out seven while allowing just three hits in a Wolverine victory.

On March 7, against 24th-ranked Pepperdine, Hajjar struck out a career-high 10 batters in six innings to get the win. He picked up his third win over UCONN in five innings of work as well.

Steven is from Massachusetts where he attended Central Catholic high school. He was named the 2018 Gatorade Player of the Year in Massachusetts his senior year and was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 21st round, but since he is entering his third season at Michigan, he is eligible to reenter into the 2021 MLB Draft.

The 6’5, 215-pound pitcher redshirted his freshman year after tearing his ACL in his right knee. But the four starts he made in 2020 prior to the cancellation of the season, was enough to put him in Jim Callis’ Top-15 college prospects for the 2021 Draft. Callis is a writer for MLB.com.

The Wolverines have 24 returnees on the roster this season with seven transfers. There is no schedule for the 2021 season yet, but Michigan came in ranked at 18 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s 2021 Preseason Rankings.

A big part of Michigan’s recent success was their pitching coach Chris Fetter who is now the Detroit Tigers pitching coach. Even with Fetter gone, the Wolverines still have a ton of talent on the mound to lead them and head coach Erik Bakich back to Omaha.
