As Michigan football looks more towards the 2022 recruiting class, an offense lineman from Colorado, Connor Jones, took a self-guided visit this weekend.

The work of recruiting never stops and in the wake or early signing day, Michigan football is still pressing forward and the news has continued to filter in since Wednesday.

The biggest news since early signing day was the verbal commitment of 2022 defensive tackle Davonte Miles. Miles is a three-star recruit from the state of Michigan and at 6-foot-5, 275 pounds, he will certainly meet the size requirement for playing on the interior.

But there is more to report on the recruiting front as Connor Jones, a three-star offensive tackle from Colorado in the 2022 class was in Ann Arbor for a self-guided visit this weekend according to Brice Marich of the Michigan Insider:

Jones was quoted as saying: “It was definitely good to see Michigan through my own eyes and Michigan remains high on my list.”

The 6-foot-7, 285-pound offensive tackle was offered by the Wolverines back in September and they were actually his first power-5 offer, which carried weight then. And with him then taking a self-guided visit, it makes you think Michigan football is the favorite to win his recruitment.

The visit, as well as the other factors, were enough for EJ Holland of Rivals, who is the Michigan recruiting expert there, to lodge a Futurecast pick for Jones to the Wolverines.

Jones isn’t a high-ranking prospect at this time and is out of Monument, Colorado but he certainly has the type of size you want in an offensive tackle at Michigan and with Ed Warinner, a proven talent developer, the measurables are important.

Right now, Jones ranks as the No. 774 prospect in the 247 sports composite rankings and is the No. 78 offensive tackle, as well as the sixth-best player in the state of Colorado. He doesn’t have any crystal ball projections from 247 sports at this time.

But these sort of visits have been strong indicators of commitments in the past, even with another 2022 commit, Marlin Klein, who took one and committed soon after.

Drew Kendall finally off the board

In another bit of news that concerns Michigan football, Drew Kendall, who was once a top target in 2021 for the Wolverines, has signed with Boston College over U-M, Stanford and others.

Kendall is a legacy at Boston College as his dad played there and even though he trended heavily to Michigan with expert picks at one point, things fell apart in the fall and even though he was mentioned here as a possible target for the late signing period, that’s now off the table.

The four-star offensive lineman has been viewed by some schools as someone who could play either side of the ball, although he is ranked as a top-10 offensive guard in the 247 composite rankings.
