When it was all said and done, Michigan football signed 20 recruits on early signing day Wednesday and here are three takeaways from the 2021 class so far.

Compared to recent years, there was tons of excitement for Michigan football on early signing day and while not everything went according to plan, it was a successful day.

That’s backed up by both 247 sports and Rivals, who essentially considered Michigan football a winner, of sorts, as both knocked the Wolverines for their losses on defense.

It’s true that the 2021 class would look much better with the signatures of four-star linebacker Branden Jennings and four-star defensive end Quintin Somerville, but still U-M has the No. 12 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and the No. 2 class in the Big Ten.

And even though most of the recruits signed early, some key guys didn’t, such as Michigan targets Rayshaun Benny, who is committed to Michigan State but didn’t sign, as well as top-100 cornerback Ceyair Wright and others such as defensive lineman George Rooks and offensive lineman Drew Kendall.

So the 2021 class could still grow, but as it stands right now, the Wolverines have a blue-chip ratio of 55 percent (meaning the number of recruits who are 4-stars or higher).

That’s solid and when you consider the five-star quarterback and four other top-100 signees, Michigan football deserves good marks for this class and here are three key takeaways.
