Michigan Football: 3 Predictions for Wolverines on early signing day
No flips Wednesday
With all the uncertainty about Michigan’s head coach, there has been tons of buzz about recruits flipping. However, there has also been buzz about the Wolverines possibly being able to flip four-star corner Omarion Cooper from Florida State.
Cooper was thought to be delaying his signing until after the early period, but that changed and Brice Marich of the Michigan Insider ($) reported Tuesday. He also mentioned Michigan has been in heavy pursuit.
It’s hard to read if this is good for Florida State or Michigan football, but Cooper is a name to watch as far as the Wolverines landing a surprise signee.
The other name to keep an eye on obviously is that of Ja’Den McBurrows, a three-star corner that is Michigan’s only current cornerback commit in 2021.
He’s from the Miami area and the Hurricanes have really been pushing, so much that McBurrows said it was a 50/50 call, telling Holland ($), “I Love Michigan and I love Miami so it’s going to be close.”
The good news on the Michigan side of things is that McBurrows has visited Ann Arbor and was part of the group of commits that took self-guided tours at the same time.
That group has been really solid and has a really strong foundation, thanks in large part to the leadership of McCarthy, who was huge in putting that visit together.
And at the end of the day, I think those connections will keep McBurrows from flipping to Miami and my prediction, although I don’t feel strongly about it, is that he will stick with the Wolverines.
On a similar note, I think Cooper winds up signing with Florida State.
Jennings and Hood could change at a later date and unless Jennings does an about face and signs Wednesday, there will be work to do with both, but at least in this scenario, U-M won’t lose anyone on signing day, which after everything that’s happened, would be pretty wild.
It would also be a credit to the job Harbaugh and his staff have done holding this thing together. It also tells you that Michigan still has a draw for these kids, regardless of the head coach.
