The time for Pink slips has come

At this point, a fair amount of Michigan football fans just want Jim Harbaugh and the entire staff to go and to be frank, I’m one of them.

I just really have a hard time seeing how Harbaugh is going to turn this around. Yes, this team has a ton of young players and a bunch of injuries, but right now, this staff looks clueless.

Harbaugh usually isn’t critical of his coaches, but he mentioned the defense needing to make the right call a number of times in his postgame press conference, which I took as a shot at Don.

But what else is there to say? This defense is a joke and now, it’s not just elite quarterback tearing it to shreds — it’s every single quarterback.

The Wolverines have allowed over 400 yards in seven of their last eight games and for the season, they have forced just four turnovers and gotten only nine sacks.

I honestly don’t know how you could be any worse than that? The problem is that it’s not just as simple as firing Don Brown and finding another DC, because unless the situation with the head coach is sorted out, who would take that job?

High-level defensive coordinators aren’t going to want to work for a lame-duck head coach, which Harbaugh will be unless he gets an extension or is fired in the next month. So in my eyes, that leaves few options and likely means an internal hire such as Brian Jean-Mary.

At this point, Jean-Mary should be the interim DC because Brown should have been relieved of his duties weeks ago. It’s harsh. He’s a good man and a good football coach but it would have sent a message to this team about accountability because right now there is none.

Brown simply cannot be back coaching at Michigan next season, even if Harbaugh returns and for that matter, Josh Gattis shouldn’t be back either.
