Defense gives up yards, but makes big plays

There are a million stats to demonstrate how bad the defense has been. Just about every team has had its best offensive output against the Wolverines, who have allowed seven of their last eight opponents to get more than 400 yards of total offense.

Penn State will certainly move the ball and I’d expect them to get between 300-400 yards of offense and even a few touchdowns. I’d be surprised if this defense held anyone under 20 points at this point.

The bigger issue for Michigan football has been the lack of impact plays. The Wolverines have only forced four turnovers this season and that needs to change if they want to win these next two games.

And Penn State ranks 124th out of 130 teams in turnover ratio, so that’s a good sign for Michigan football this week and for the first time this season, U-M gets multiple takeaways in a game.
