Franz has a rough start

No player got more hype leading up to Michigan basketball’s opener than Franz Wagner and in the the first game at least, he didn’t really deliver.

But is that something to be concerned about? No.

The biggest issue for Franz was just an inability to knock down 3-point shots. He finished the game 4-of-10 from the field but he was 0-of-4 from 3-point range and missed out on some good looks. If he makes one or two of those, he’s into double digits.

That’s also what I wouldn’t worry. Wagner is a skilled 3-point shooter and those shots will start to fall. What was impressive was the way he scored without his jumper working.

Wagner, who is now 6-foot-9, used his size well on an NBA-style post up which earned him an easy two points and he showcased his scoring ability inside on another cut as well.

The sophomore was also credited with six rebounds, a blocked shot and an assist. He didn’t force anything and it was Livers, who finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, who wound up taking the most shots.

Wagner is still going to have a great season and he’s still Michigan’s most talented player, he just had an off shooting night and that’s not something I would expect to see often in 2020-21.
