The defense may struggle but Michigan wins

The biggest question mark about this Michigan basketball team heading into the season is the defense. Jon Teske and Xavier Simpson are gone and it’s nearly impossible to see how Michigan could be as good defensively as it was the last two seasons.

With Smith and Dickinson, two incoming players known for their offensive talent, their ability to defend will determine how much Howard can use them in the lineup and if Smith proves to be a decent defender, his shooting ability will make it hard to keep him on the bench.

Like any first game, there will likely be rust, especially since the offseason hasn’t gone as it normally does.

The Wolverines are also an entirely new team from last season. There will be a new point guard and after three years of Simpson running the show, that right there is a huge change.

At the end of the day though, Michigan is just far too talented for Bowling Green to hang around much past halftime. It should be a competitive game and one that’s pretty high scoring as Michigan nearly reaches a 100 in its season-opening win.
