Michigan Football: 5 Things we learned from wild win at Rutgers
A lot of questions left to be answered
This team needed something good and so getting a win was essential. Of course, we could all say why wasn’t Cade playing earlier and blah, blah, but it’s easy to see why the staff gave Milton his shot. Joe has a special ability but he’s just having a hard time with accuracy.
It makes you wonder how good the coaching staff is at evaluating their own talent? And on the offensive line, that will be a question going forward too, because while McNamara is sure to get the start, it’s probably less clear with Zach Carpenter and Zak Zinter.
There was clearly more a push in the running game, albeit against Rutgers, but the Scarlet Knights haven’t been terrible against the run allowing just four yards per attempt.
The biggest question is how in the world is the defense going to piece things together to win a few more games?
At this point, I think a five-win season is still possible, remembering that Michigan has that crossover game against the Big Ten West. That means beating Penn State and Maryland, then winning that game because upsetting Ohio State would be a miracle.
It also means finding a way to get something out of the defense or at least finding a way to cover that wart the best way possible. McNamara running the show should help.
If the offense can get leads and control the clock with the running game, that will help and playing with the lead is always easier as a defense too.
For now, we will have to deal with Brown and his ineptitude, because while I don’t see Harbaugh going anywhere after the season, I can’t say the same for the defensive coordinator.
