Michigan football is desperately in need of some elite talent at corner and looks like the favorite for Domani Jackson.

Michigan football hasn’t landed a player like Domani Jackson in a long time and if the Wolverines are able to win his recruitment in 2022, it would be a game-changer for the program.

Jackson is the No. 3 overall player in the 2022 class and the top-ranked cornerback. He was also in Ann Arbor last week along with a number of other recruits in 2021 and 2022.

Jackson is out of California and plays at Mater Dei, which is the same school that 2021 commit Christian Dixon plays for. His dad is also a huge Michigan football fan and he has called Michigan his “dream school” before.

Here’s what Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider had to say about Jackson and his dad’s self-guided visit over the weekend on the Michigan Insider Podcast this week:

"“I truly believe that Michigan is his dream school. Hearing his dad talk and seeing his dad react to being on campus and how deeply invested he is in Michigan history, I really, really think they feel Michigan.  I think they really, truly, bleed Maize and Blue.”"

Obviously, taking a self-guided visit isn’t the same as getting to take in the full experience, but they still took the trip, just as they did with Ohio State recently.

Webb did note that the Buckeyes were in the lead recently, along with USC as each program has received crystal ball picks in the past month or two. However, even though Webb said he wasn’t ready to put in a pick for Jackson just yet, the Wolverines are in the lead.

"“I think last month it was accurate to say that USC was out front. A couple of weeks ago, it was accurate to say Ohio State was out front. It is significant to say that Michigan is out front on the heels of this visit.”"

If you buy what Webb is saying and this piece by EJ Holland of Rivals ($) probably backs up that thinking, then Michigan has a golden opportunity here, especially because there is legitimate talk about Jackson and Will Johnson coming as a package deal.

Johnson is the No. 13 overall prospect in 2022 and the No. 3 corner in the class, as well as the top player in the of Michigan. He started trending with crystal balls to U-M this week and it looks like the Wolverines have a legitimate shot at landing both.

Obviously, there is a long time between now and signing day for 2022, but despite their struggles, the Wolverines have a chance to land the two recruits, who could drastically change the fortunes of the Michigan defense for years.
