Avery Young

Season Stats: 24 Tackles, 2 Forced Fumbles

The talented Pennsylvanian cornerback has yet to record an interception this season or even a pass breakup, but has also yet to allow a reception longer than 20 yards. That tells me that he has an exceptional ability of keeping the receiver from getting behind him and making the open field tackles once he allows the catch to be made.

Young has logged more pass rushing snaps from the corner position through four games this year than he had in each of his past two full seasons. Schiano is getting creative in where he brings pressure from and Young is still improving in that respect as his pass rushing PFF grade has increased each game this season as well.

All this is not to say that Michigan football can disregard Young as a coverage player either. In his previous two seasons, he had a total of 11 pass breakups and does have an interception as well, so he may be due to get his hands on the football.

If Michigan wants to gain some positive momentum from this week, playing a clean, turnover free offensive game will be paramount. You can bet Avery Young will be aiming to ensure Rutgers creates some havoc defensively on Saturday.
