Michigan Football: 3 Keys for Wolverines against Rutgers
By Adam Childs
3. McNamara time
Four games are not normally enough time to give up on a player and I am not saying they give up on Joe Milton. But something is wrong with Milton and he is not getting any better being on the field. The cool, calm, and collected player we saw against Minnesota is gone and who knows if he will come back.
He has looked lost out there and is lacking confidence. He hasn’t seemed to have a lot of fire and when that is lost, it is tough to play the quarterback position, especially when you are struggling.

Cade McNamara came in for Milton in the third quarter and went right down the field. He was accurate and confident with his throws. There was a spark from the team for a little bit that we hadn’t seen in three weeks.
It is a very small sample size for McNamara, but it was good. It should be enough to get him more time and Harbaugh even said the quarterback spot was open for this week. If Harbaugh is smart he will give McNamara that opportunity.
Look Milton has a ton of potential and talent but he hasn’t put it all together and the offense has looked progressively worse. It can’t get any worse for the Wolverines so give McNamara his time.
The Wolverines need a spark and while they may love Milton, starting McNamara could provide that change they needed.
If the Wolverines were still winning games ugly then maybe you still with Milton and see if he could snap out of it. But with the losses mounting it is probably time for a change.
Milton can win this game at quarterback, but I think the Wolverines have a better shot with McNamara behind center. Give him a shot and I think they will be rewarded for it.
