Why Matt Campbell would be an excellent hire for Michigan Football

Character & Loyalty
There is a large portion of this fanbase that is not going to care about anything that I’m about to say. I get that. I know that a lot of you are win at all costs and don’t care about culture or anything like that. I respect that.
But that’s just not who Michigan is and it’s not who Michigan will ever be. Whether you like it or not, Michigan will not run a dirty program and they will not hire a guy with red flags. It’s just not going to happen.
I spoke to Jordan Strack who covered Matt Campbell for several years at Toledo, and I asked him to speak about Matt Campbell as a person. And he echoed the same things that you hear from literally anyone who has ever interacted with Matt Campbell.
Classy, genuine, and simply put, a good dude. Here is everything Jordan Strack said to me about Matt Campbell. This was recorded back in May.
I also saw this tweet last night that really speaks to who Matt Campbell is.
Another thing that I wanted to point out was his loyalty. This is someone that was considered for the Ohio State job. He was considered for six NFL head coaching vacancies after the 2018 season. He has been coaching since 2002 and has only been at four programs.
This is not a guy who shows up, does gimmicks to win, and jumps ship to a better gig (cough cough PJ Fleck). Matt Campbell does it the right way. He builds the program from the ground up by getting the right players and building a great culture.
If you’re still unsure about Matt Campbell, check out this speech that he gave to his team after upsetting a top 5 TCU team in 2017. This is the type of guy that I see thriving at Michigan.
Also, doesn’t this just look good?

When you are looking for the balance of a realistic hire combined with a great coach, Matt Campbell stands alone as the best candidate for Michigan football. There’s plenty of room left on the Matt Campbell train, feel free to join.
Shout out to Justin Wooten and Parker Churchill for gathering and compiling a lot of the stats used in this article.
