Michigan Football: Grading the Wolverines against Wisconsin
Coaching/Special teams: F
Before we get to the coaching woes, the one time Michigan football got some momentum Saturday night following its one touchdown, was when it held Wisconsin down 35-11.
Sure, it was a long shot, but after a three-and-out, another touchdown and two-point conversion would have made cut the lead down to16 points and at least made it feel competitive.
Instead, the coaches tried to block the kick, which isn’t a bad strategy, but when it doesn’t work, you can’t have 3-4 guys running into the punter, which is what the Wolverines did. It was mind-numbingly bad execution. However, with this team it wasn’t exactly a shock.
With all of the losses and the injuries, Michigan isn’t an overly talented team, especially when its top-rated recruits keep failing to deliver.
But when you can’t do the basic fundamental things like block, tackle and not commit stupid penalties, it’s hard to win, even if you have all the talent in the world.
Jim Harbaugh essentially said Michigan football was in a “bad spot” Saturday and he was right. This program has fallen off a cliff and it’s time for him to look in the mirror as to why.
