Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from humiliating Wisconsin loss
By Nick Popio
The talent level drop off is growing with every passing week.
Recruiting has been on the mind of many as the losses mount up for Michigan football and it’s clear that the defense misses Ambry Thomas and the offense feels the same with the absence of Nico Collins. Neither is coming back and Michigan never was prepared to replace them with the next man up.
The injuries on the defensive line have been very noticeable with the pass rush as well. The depth behind Aidan Hutchinson and Kwity Paye is almost non-existent.
With all due respect to Taylor Upshaw and Luiji Vilain, they are nowhere near the level of quality as the aforementioned starters. Plus not having Braiden McGregor available just adds to the sting of everything that’s already happened.
As far as the future is concerned nothing is set in stone and things can fall apart in a heartbeat.
The 2021 class missed out on Rayshaun Benny this week and more will likely follow. Finding a way to hold on to J.J. McCarthy may be the most important aspect of the recruiting process if all else fails.
