The running game will be respectable

It’s weird to think that a respectable rushing attack is a bold prediction for this Michigan football team, but that’s where we are right now in 2020.

Last week, the Wolverines managed just 13 yards on 18 carries against Indiana in an embarrassing performance. Yes, offensive lineman were out and will be out again this week, but come on, there is no excuse for the ground game being that bad.

The running backs, which were supposed to be a strength this season, have so far been a disappointment. The rotation hasn’t helped and it’s been so random that not a single Michigan running back has reached double digit rushing attempts in a game.

That’s baffling and that needs to change Saturday. Ben Mason needs more than the nine snaps he got last week and hell, if Michigan needs to actually get under center or the pistol, so be it.

Wisconsin allowed an average of 5.2 yards per attempt in its season opening win against Illinois, so the Wolverines should be able to make some headway against that front. But the offensive line has to be better and after an awful performance, I’m betting it will be.

My guess is that someone, possibly Hassan Haskins who is averaging 7.9 yards per attempt this season, will finally get 10 carries. Each back has flashed a little but Haskins has been the best runner and against a physical Wisconsin team, I’d like to see him get more chances.
