Michigan Basketball: 3 Takeaways from commitment of Moussa Diabate
What’s next?
At this point, if Michigan basketball doesn’t lose any players following the 2020-21 season, the roster would be full with 13 scholarship players, assuming all six 2021 commits sign.
However, most people expect Franz Wagner to jump to the NBA after this season. He didn’t receive All-Big Ten preseason honors and that’s understandable, but by the end of the season, he will be among the best in the Big Ten.

If that proves to be true and Wagner declares for the draft, it would leave one scholarship open for next season. It’s possible Howard could still push for another five-star big man such as Efton Reid, but as talented as Reid is, the roster is going to need help in the backcourt.
Regardless, the Wolverines are going to be young at guard next season. Eli Brooks, Mike Smith and Wagner will likely be gone. Adrien Nunez could still be in the mix, but it’s hard to know if he will ever be a rotation player.
That leaves Zeb Jackson, as well as the incoming freshmen such as Collins, Bufkin and Barnes, who can probably play some two.
Bufkin is a really skilled player and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him come in and start right away at the two, assuming Jackson would be the point guard. Jackson can also play off the ball too, which could help him play alongside Collins.
But either way, the Wolverines could use an experienced two guard who can shoot the 3-ball and defend, so if Wagner does leave, the transfer portal could be the way to go.
