Juwan is living up to the recruiting hype

When Howard was hired as Michigan basketball coach, many expected him to be a strong recruiter, however, some of that was dampened with the swing and miss in 2020 on guys like Joshua Christopher and Isaiah Todd.

After missing out on those targets and some other five-star recruits in the 2021 class, such as Jalen Warley, some Michigan basketball fans were questioning Howard’s pursuits of five stars.

Got any questions now?

In less than two weeks, Howard has landed two five-star recruits and Diabate isn’t just committing, he will be signing on Wednesday. In the 247 sports composite rankings, Michigan basketball has commitments from four of the top 64 and six in the top 154.

And while Diabate and Caleb Houstan could be one-and-done players, guys like Frankie Collins, Kobe Bufkin, Isaiah Barnes and Will Tschetter all have the look of multi-year contributors.

You add that to the top-ranked recruiting class in the Big Ten in 2020 and Howard is building something. Certainly, Michigan has a ways to go to be considered on par with Michigan State in recruiting, but the first two cycles under Juwan have been a very good start.
