Michigan Football: 8 Possible candidates to replace Jim Harbaugh
By Adam Childs
Matt Campbell – Head Coach, Iowa State Cyclones
If you have been paying attention to one of our own writers @wolverinecorner, he has outlined why this would be a great fit. If you are just a casual college football fan you probably wonder who this guy is.
Campbell started his head coaching career at the University of Toledo and after four very successful years, he took the job at Iowa State. The Cyclones were a perennial bottom feeder in the Big 12. They weren’t a great program and after a 3-9 record in his first year in Ames, Campbell has led them to at least seven wins in the last three years.
This year despite an early loss to Louisiana, he led them to an upset win over Oklahoma and has them near the top of the Big 12 standings. He has become a thorn in the side of the big-time programs in the Big 12 and has turned the Cyclones into a very good team.
They played a hard-nosed type of game and in a conference full of points they have found a way to limit some of the best offenses in the Big 12. He is the type of young guy that the Wolverines would be lucky to get. He would more than likely make the jump from Iowa State to Michigan if given the opportunity.
Jamey Chadwell – Head Coach, Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
Chadwell is going to be the hot name in coaching searches this year. He has taken Coastal Carolina to a top 15 rankings despite this being only their fourth year in the FBS.
He has produced a very good offense and has one of the better quarterbacks nobody has heard of. Winning at this stage of a program’s history is not easy and he has the Chanticleers as a name you need to take seriously.
He may not be the sexy name out there, but he can coach and someone is going to scoop him up, why not the Wolverines.
It is true that the coaches coming from outside the Power 5 conferences can struggle when they make the jump, but there have also been a lot of success stories also. Remember Urban Meyer started off at Bowling Green before working his way up.
