Michigan Football: Grading the Wolverines against Indiana
Special Teams: C
There isn’t really much you can say about the special teams. Brad Robbins did a nice job punting the ball for Michigan and averaged 53 yards a boot, which was probably the biggest bright spot.
Giles Jackson didn’t do anything in the return game. But on other side of things, Indiana wasn’t able to do anything either. In fact, they didn’t even attempt a kickoff return. Quinn Nordin also made all three of his extra point attempts.
Coaching: F
After such a bad loss last week, you would have expected Michigan football to come out with a fire in its belly against Indiana — to play with some sort of urgency.
But nope. Instead, the game basically felt decided by the end of the first quarter and honestly, that’s exactly the way it used to feel under Hoke/Rich Rod.
The defense was terrible and the fact that the coaches won’t even try younger guys like Andre Seldon or Daron Green-Warren, even DJ Turner is just confusing. What could it hurt?
And offensively, Michigan just looks like a team with no plan. It wants to be physical, but can’t be. Ben Mason logged eight snaps and the team ran just 18 times. It was a miserable performance. Josh Gattis and Ed Warinner have to get more out of the running game.
Jim Harbaugh has to get more out of this entire program, which has too much talent to be this bad.
