Michigan Football: Grading the Wolverines against Indiana
Michigan football suffered one of the worst losses of the Jim Harbaugh era Saturday against Indiana and here are the grades for the Wolverines.
There is no doubt that a loss by Michigan football at Indiana Saturday was always a possibility. But I don’t think anyone expected the Hoosiers to dominate the way they did.
When it was all said and done, the numbers were pretty staggering. Indiana basically led wire-to-wire. The Hoosiers forced a three and out, scored a touchdown and never looked back and for the second straight week, the Wolverines never led for a single second.
The 13th-ranked Hoosiers owned the line of scrimmage. Michael Penix Jr. had all day to throw and just like Rocky Lombardi last week, he wasn’t sacked once.
On the other side of the ball, Michigan football ran for just 13 yards on 18 carries. Sure, some of yards were lost on sacks but still, it was a miserable performance, especially against a team that was averaging 4.5 yards per attempt going in.
In short, it was the kind of performance you would expect during the Rich Rod era or during the era of Brady Hoke, at least the last two years when the wheels fell off.
Obviously, things changed for Hoke when Urban Meyer was hired but for Harbaugh, it’s hard to say when things went wrong. The 2016 Ohio State game was the peak and since then, mediocrity has rained for U-M.
Whether Harbaugh can turn it around remains to be seen, but for this week at least, let’s get to the grades for Michigan football vs Indiana.
