Don Brown needs to go, Harbaugh should follow

Following another embarrassing defeat, one in which his defense was destroyed, Jim Harbaugh once again affirmed his support for the coaching staff and Don Brown. Here’s what he said (via 247 sports) following the loss:

"“I love all of our coaches, every coach on this staff. They work extremely hard, their schemes are very good and they’re coaching good. Just keep forging ahead, stay after it to make that next step. Critical step.”"

Bascially, it’s the same crap line Harbaugh always gives after a loss. Essentially, he’s saying the players and coaches will keep trying hard.

Well, Jim, that’s not good enough anymore.

Don Brown is a great guy, but he has done what he can with this defense and he needs to go. An example needs to be made for goodness sake. At some point, when guys don’t do their job, there has got to be some accountability.

Brown should have been fired two years ago, but Jim refuses to make the move and it sounds like it’s not something he has even considered.

What concerns me is that if Jim fires Brown in the offseason and lays the blame at his feet, which is deserved, but allowing Harbaugh to remain the head coach.

As much as fans want to see Harbaugh get a pink slip from Warde Manuel, it’s hard to say if that will happen. In fact, there were still rumors this past week about an extension according to Rivals (subscription required)

All I know is that for the first time the last two weeks, Michigan football has started to remind me of the way it looked under Rich Rod and Brady Hoke, which isn’t something I ever thought I’d say about the Wolverines under Jim Harbaugh.
