Penalties are glaring through the defense’s growing pains.

Michigan’s defense was penalized a staggering amount for the second consecutive game. The line got called for jumping offsides too many times to count in the first half.

Then, throughout the ongoing event the cornerbacks reverted back to what they did versus Michigan State with numerous pass interference calls.

It was a sorry display of being undisciplined for what has gone on for far too long now. The lows of this defense are sadly just beginning.

The Wolverines have no choice but to live with how badly they perform from this point on, including a trip to Columbus that they have to be dreading. Playing some younger guys might not be out of the conversation no matter how awful things get.

The response in the second half was a tad better, but not by much. It’s widely noticeable how much things are only going to get worse before they get better.

What once seemed like a promising road ahead after a blowout win away from Ann Arbor, has turned into a realistic picture of a two win season tops.
