Why Michigan might lose: The pass defense

The biggest concern coming into this matchup for Michigan football has to be the pass defense, which did not hold up well against Rocky Lombardi and Michigan State, allowing more than 300 yards passing and three touchdowns.

Indiana has some talented players in this area too led by quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and also wide receiver Whop Philyor and Ty Fryfogle. After watching what Michigan State did, surely attacking down the field will be a key part of the plan.

However, Penix Jr. is only completing 58 percent of his passes and if the running game can be contained that could make it harder for him to be efficient, plus it would make it easier for Don Brown to apply some pressure.

But if Penix Jr. can get time to throw, there is legitimate reason to be concerned about how Michigan’s corners can hold up and whether or not Brown will adjust.

Indiana is obvioulsy a different attack and isn’t likely to max protect and take shots down the field, but it will try to spread out the Wolverines defense and how U-M handles the IU passing game could be the determining factor in who wins the game.
