Why Michigan wins No. 3: Ball security

The most telling stat in football is always turnovers and through two games, one thing Michigan football isn’t doing on offense is turning it over.

Joe Milton hasn’t thrown an interception through two games and if that continues against Indiana, that will go a long way. So far, Indiana has intercepted five passes from opponents and is averaging three takeaways per game — a huge reason its 2-0.

I feel safe in saying that if the Wolverines turn the ball over three times on Saturday, they aren’t leaving Indiana with a win. But this game plan could be much more like the one we saw against Minnesota, more designed runs  and more attempts at keeping Joe in shorter down and distance situations.

Last week, there were too many second and third and longs. I expect that to be rectified and if all goes to plan, Michigan will run the ball more than it throws.

Michigan is the more talented team here, but if Indiana forces turnovers that could be the game, especially with the Hoosiers high-powered offense.
