3 Ways Michigan Football can fix things against Indiana
Let Milton be Milton
One thing I would like to see Michigan football do is take more advantage of Joe Milton‘s arm strength. Obviously, guys have to get open, I understand that, but also, why haven’t the Wolverines taken more shots down the field?
Rocky Lombardi has a solid arm, but he’s not Milton in terms of throwing it and while the MSU receivers are good, they aren’t head and shoulders above the Wolverines. And as MSU proved, taking some shots, while max protecting can be a good idea.
Certainly, a run game that defenses need to respect would help and then Michigan could attempt some shots off play action, but guys like Roman Wilson, A.J. Henning, Giles Jackson and Cornelius Johnson should be given some chances down the field.
This is where Michigan is really missing Nico Collins and Donovan Peoples-Jones from last season and in terms of home-run speed, there isn’t a lot of it. Johnson is a big body though, while Henning and Wilson are burners; Jackson too to a lesser extent.
All the RPO stuff is good and makes sense. Milton should continue to make plays with his feet, but the offense needs more explosive plays and some deep shots could be one way of making that happen.
The Wolverines threw the ball all over the place against Indiana and the fact is, if Michigan doesn’t have the athletes to beat the Hoosiers down the field, something is seriously wrong.
Michigan has the talent, now it needs to trust it.
