Michigan Football: Top recruit Rayshaun Benny trending to MSU
It looks like Rayshaun Benny, one of the top recruits in the state of Michigan in 2021 will be committing to Michigan State instead of Michigan football.
Losing a game is bad enough, but for Michigan football, the Wolverines lost more than just a game Saturday and it’s starting to show on the recruiting trail.
There are already rumors that Michigan State could flip Andrel Anthony, a wide receiver commit for the Wolverines and now, it appears that the recruiting battle for Rayshaun Benny has also been decided in MSU’s favor.
Leading up to the game against Michigan State, it was well known that Benny’s decision was likely coming down to the Spartans and Wolverines. U-M had controlled his crystal ball projections and owned all of his Futurecast picks from Rivals, but on Monday, all that changed.
More accurately it changed Saturday.
Now, the majority of experts picks from Rivals and 247 sports are projecting Benny to commit to Michigan State when he announces his decision on Sunday.
Is more fallout on the way?
For Michigan football, it’s hard to overstate how troubling this is and it’s only going to get worse if Andrel Anthony follows suit.

Outside of those two guys, Michigan should be solid, especially with Raheem Anderson and Giovanni El-Hadi, the other top-notch in-state recruits in this class.
There shouldn’t be any reason to worry about the other commits either, as long as U-M turns things around.
If things go the other way and it turns into a three or four win season, then who knows what could happen to a recruiting class that has looked like it could be one Jim Harbaugh’s best.
Now that Benny is a certain miss, the focus will turn to George Rooks but he also has shown heavy interest in Penn State, so that’s not a slam dunk either.
Michigan was long viewed as the favorite for him, but he kept delaying his decision, so it’s hard to feel hopeful, which means the Wolverines are nearly starting from scratch at defensive tackle.
And since that was a major need heading into this class, missing on Benny would be a massive blow and unfortunately, it could be a sign of things to come.
