5 Things we learned from Michigan Football’s loss to Michigan State
Michigan football suffered the worst loss of the Jim Harbaugh era Saturday and here’s what we learned about the Wolverines.
It’s frustrating being a Michigan football fan and that was never more true than it was Saturday against Michigan State.
The Wolverines entered their annual rivalry game with the Spartans as heavy favorites, predicted to win by more than three touchdowns and from the very start, it was clear Michigan football wasn’t ready to go.
I guess it would have been easy to overlook Michigan State, following the Spartans loss at home to Rutgers in the season opener and in hindsight, just about everyone took MSU for granted.
That’s one thing for the fanbase to do it, but it’s quite another for the team and the Wolverines trotted out on the field at the Big House expecting their opponent, their arch rival, to lay down.
Michigan State was the more physical team and the Spartans owned the line of scrimmage all day. Michigan may have finished with more rushing yards, but it consistently got behind the chains because the offensive line was dominated, especially on the interior.
The offense looked sluggish and the defense, in the second half, simply couldn’t offer any resistance. Rocky Lombardi threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns. Michigan couldn’t cover his receivers and couldn’t hit him.
In short, this was a really strange one off or this Michigan football team is much worse than we thought. So, let’s dive in and see what we learned from the nightmarish 27-24 defeat.
