Just the first 5-star?

Ever since Juwan arrived the Wolverines have been in the mix with a lot more five-star recruits than before and part of that had to do with just making the effort.

It’s not that John Beilein didn’t try for the five stars, he just recruited a little bit differently and that sort of put U-M at a disadvantage. But now, with Howard’s killing it with the big-name prospects.

That probably has to do with his reputation for developing talent as an assistant coach in the NBA or just his ability to connect with recruits as a former big-time prospect himself.

Either way, momentum is a real thing when it comes to recruiting and now that Michigan basketball has landed one five-star recruit under Howard, assuming he signs, others could be on the way and hopefully that means Efton Reid.

At 6-foot-11, Reid is exactly the player Michigan needs at center but it could take some convincing to play alongside Hunter Dickinson with the Wolverines. The addition of Houstan could certainly help though.

And if Reid doesn’t end up with the Wolverines, it’s likely that Michigan could seek out a shot-blocking big in the transfer portal because that’s the one clear need left.
