Michigan football fans were hoping the Wolverines could land the No. 3 overall prospect in 2022 but now it looks like Ohio State might be the team.

In the 2022 recruiting class, Michigan football has been squarely in the mix for two of the top players overall, Domani Jackson and Will Johnson.

Both are five-star recruits at corner and Jackson is the No. 3 player overall in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings. He’s also the top cornerback.

He’s out of California but is a national recruit and recently made a plan to take a self-guided visit to Michigan football in November.

However, after getting crystal ball projections to USC not long ago, the Mater Dei product is now being predicted to Ohio State by Bill Kurelic and Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports ($). Here’s what Kurelic wrote:

"“I, along with 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong, have Crystal Balled Jackson to the Buckeyes. Based on what I have been told, and in conjunction with what Wiltfong has been told, feel confident enough to predict Jackson to Ohio State.”"

Obviously, this is bad news for Michigan football which seemed to have a decent shot at Jackson, especially with him taking a trip to Ann Arbor. Yet, Ohio State was always a very real threat for Jackson and Johnson, the top player in the state of Michigan for 2022.

If Jackson does wind up at Ohio State, that will only increase the pressure on Michigan football to wind up with Johnson. It would be an especially tough blow on the recruiting trail if Johnson also went to Ohio State, which is a top contender for him also.

As far as Jackson’s latest crystal ball picks, they come around a month after a couple lodged for USC, which came with confidence levels of seven out of 10, which is the same confidence level for the Ohio State crystal balls.

As Michigan fans well know, crystal ball picks don’t mean everything in recruiting, but in this instance, it seems like the 2022 Ohio State recruits are excited about something and it could be Jackson or five-star wideout Caleb Burton, who also got a crystal ball to Ohio State.

Even if the Wolverines miss out on Jackson, they are in a strong position in 2022, especially now that two more top-200 recruits are moving in the right direction, but still, it would hurt and would be a missed opportunity with a really, really good player.
