The recruiting impact

I touched on this topic Tuesday and looked at how this game could impact some specific recruitments in the 2021 class, including that of Rayshaun Benny, but on a grander scale, the results of this game are important.

Michigan has a tough time recruiting against Ohio State, in part, because the Wolverines just can’t beat the Buckeyes. And if the Wolverines win this game going away on Saturday, it’s going to make recruiting the state of Michigan even harder for MSU.

That will be three consecutive defeats to Michigan and already, the 2021 cycle hasn’t been kind to the Spartans. Landing a guy like Benny would help, but back-to-back losses to open the season, including a loss to the lead team in his recruitment wouldn’t be ideal.

That being said, a good showing by Michigan State, even a really close loss, could at least be sold as a positive on the trail.

The Spartans need something good, because another ugly loss will make an already tough rebuilding job, even more difficult, at least from a recruiting perspective.
