3. Allow Milton to run

In a perfect world, your quarterback could see in a clean pocket find open receivers or hand the ball off to his running back and they have holes to run through.

We know this isn’t the truth and you need to have a quarterback that is willing to move in the pocket and still make plays. They also need to be a threat to run the ball to loosen up the defense.

Milton showed he could do that on Saturday against Minnesota and the Wolverines need to allow him to continue to do that. Judging by the play calls in the first game it will happen, but they need to make it a point to allow him to use his legs.

The coaches called a lot decent amount of designed runs for Milton and he showed that he could handle it and make timely plays. Obviously, they don’t want him to take too many hits, but allowing him to run it got him more into the game and gave him the freedom to make plays.

Milton showed good speed and vision when he needed to run and that was something Michigan seemed to be lacking last year. Patterson could run, but he seemed hesitant to do it at times. Milton showed on Saturday what we hoped Patterson would do last year.

Milton still needs to make plays with his arm, but having that added dimension of the run will make it tough for the Spartans to stop him.

Milton showed he can be a good runner, so the Wolverines need to take advantage of that and then let that set up the pass. Then he can show off his big arm and make plays to the receivers that will hopefully be open because of the respect for his legs.

If they let Milton get in a groove running to open things up, it should once again allow the Wolverines to pick up a big win.
