Michigan Basketball: Ranking the top 10 Wolverines since 2010

#6: Caris LeVert
Caris LeVert was my personal favorite player to watch in the John Beilein era. His story was so fantastic. He was a two-star recruit that was committed to Ohio. After Ohio head Coach John Groce made the move to Illinois, John Beilein came and and flipped LeVert and got him to sign with Michigan.
A two-star MAC level recruit wouldn’t contribute right away right? He probably won’t even pan out to be any good. Boy was everyone wrong about LeVert. As a true freshman, he played in 33 games off the bench and became a reliable late game defender for John Beilein.
Despite averaging only 2.3 PPG as a freshman, LeVert was yet another key piece that helped Michigan make it to the 2013 national championship game.
Caris had his breakout year during the 2013-14 season as a sophomore. He averaged 12.9 PPG and helped lead Michigan to the Elite Eight. Unfortunately, Caris’ next two seasons were crippled by injury. He played in only 33 games over his junior and senior seasons which really had an impact on his legacy at Michigan.
The sky was the limit for LeVert had he stayed healthy. He still produced in both of those injury filled seasons but we never saw Caris reach his potential in a Michigan jersey.
When LeVert was healthy, he did it all for Michigan basketball. Here are highlights from his triple double game against Northern Kentucky in 2015.
What’s Caris LeVert up to these days? He’s heading into his 5th season in the NBA coming off his best year yet. Last year for the Nets LeVert averaged 18.7 points per game and had his signature moment when he dropped 51 points against Boston on March 3rd.
LeVert has a bright future ahead of him and it’s always going to be a bummer knowing that we never got to see him reach his potential at Michigan.
