#9: Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman

MAAR was one of those Michigan basketball players that always seemed to get overlooked. Not only by opposing teams, coaches, announcers, etc. But also by the Michigan fanbase.

He was a typical low ranked Beilein recruit that many thought would need a few years to develop until he eventually turned into a contributor. Coming out of high school in the 2014 class, MAAR was ranked as the 434th best player in the class.

Well, turns out MAAR didn’t need that much time to develop and make an impact after all. He averaged 19 minutes per game as a freshman, and started 103 games for the Wolverines over his final three seasons.

By the time his career was over, Abdur-Rahkman appeared in 144 games for the Wolverines and was a key piece to Michigan’s 2018 Final Four run.

Now that he has been graduated for a few years, it feels like MAAR is a player who is talked about a lot among fans and he is definitely remembered fondly. His clutch 3-point shooting, fierce defense, and ice in his veins playmaking was a major asset to Michigan for his four seasons.

Having a player who is elite on both ends of the floor and could play either guard spot is pretty rare. Michigan basketball fans were spoiled by having Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman around for four years.

Also, don’t forget that Abdur-Rahkman was the one who made that pass that set up Jordan Poole’s buzzer beater against Houston.

Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman currently plays for the Canton Charge, the G League affiliate for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
