Michigan Basketball: Ranking the top 10 Wolverines since 2010
By Max S.
#1: Trey Burke
I’m sure you guessed it, of course Trey Burke is number one on this list. Who else could possibly take this spot?
Burke is the most talented player I have seen play at Michigan in my life time. His speed, defense, shot creation, ball handling, and shooting were all elite. It was almost impossible to find a weakness in his game.
He started 71 of his 73 career games at Michigan and averaged 14.8 PPG his freshman season, and 18.6 PPG his sophomore season. During that special sophomore season, Burke won Big Ten Player of the year, National College Player of the Year, and was a Consensus first-team All-American.
The most special moment of his Michigan basketball career was obviously the deep three against Kansas in the NCAA Tournament to force OT. To this day I still find myself searching for that video and watching it at random times.
It’s my favorite memory as a Michigan basketball fan and one that will live on as one of the greatest moments in program history.
His jersey should be hanging in the rafters at the Crisler Center. It shouldn’t matter that he was only at Michigan for two years. It shouldn’t matter that he didn’t end up winning the national championship. He gave Michigan basketball fans the most exciting season since the Fab Five and his accolades should result in his jersey being retired.
