#2: Moe Wagner

If you’re a Michigan basketball fan, what was there not to love about Moe Wagner? You want energy? He brought it. You want a stretch big man with deep range? Moe had it. You want a cocky player who isn’t afraid to get under the opposing team’s skin? Moe is that guy.

Watching Moe Wagner develop over the course of his three year career was so fun. He started as this skinny and extremely raw foreign prospect that had promise, but needed a lot of work.

Two seasons later, I don’t think many Michigan fans expected him to turn into one of the best centers in the country and end up being a first round pick. Moe will always be a fan favorite in Ann Arbor. For as good of a basketball player as he was, he was equally as good of a guy off the court.

Michigan absolutely does not make that Final Four run in 2018 without the stellar play of Moe Wagner. He was the typical John Beilein big man. High energy, pick and roll specialist, and lights out shooting.

In his last season at Michigan, Moe averaged 14.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. His rebounding often gets overlooked, but he was one of the most efficient rebounders Beilein had in his entire tenure at Michigan.

My favorite Moe Wagner moment at Michigan was his 27 point game against Michigan State on the road in 2018. This was of course the game in which he broke Nick Ward’s ankles on a really good behind the back drive to the lane.

That clip and the rest of the highlights from that game are included below.
