Running Backs A

The first run for Charbonnet went for 70 yards and a huge answer to the early touchdown for the Gophers. Haskins bounced a seemingly dead play 66 yards and Chris Evans scored a touchdown after missing last year due to an academic issue.

It was a very good game for the running backs last night. The Wolverines rushed for 253 yards on the game and just under 200 came from the running backs. Milton went for 52 on his own and Giles Jackson had an eight yard rush also.

The running backs last night stayed patient, ran hard, and found their holes. It is all you can ask for if you are a Michigan fan or coach.

The thought coming into the year was that the Wolverines were going to be extremely deep at this position and it showed last night. Haskins led the running backs with just six carries, but four other guys had a least four rushes. It was exactly what we thought we would get and each one showed flashes of why they should get touches.

While there may come a time when you want to ride the hot hand, the fact that the Michigan offense can run smoothly with any back in there is a good sign. It should keep them fresh throughout this crazy year and only help the offense run better.

It was just the first game, but they all looked ready to go and grinded out yards when they needed to. If the offensive line can keep opening up holes for them it should be a great year with this group of guys.
