Grading Michigan Football’s offense after win against Gophers

Tight Ends / Receivers B
This group was probably the biggest “disappointment” for the Wolverines last night. And when we say disappointment, we are just basing it off of every other group on offense for Michigan.
Overall they did nothing seriously wrong, but they just didn’t stand out much either. They made plays when they needed to, but they had a few drops and none was more glaring than tight end Erick All dropping a walk in touchdown in the third quarter. He did make up for it the next play catching a short pass in the flat and barreling down to inside the ten.
All together they had 13 catches for just over 200 yards. Chris Evans and Ben Mason also had a catch, but they did that out of the backfield.
It was a solid game for the pass catchers, but not one that would jump out at you as great. It is a spot the Wolverines are going to have to improve on, because if opposing teams can shut down the run, then they need to be able to find openings in the secondary to move the chains.
Ronnie Bell led all receivers with four catches and 74 yards, but the only touchdown catch was by Mason who we already mentioned.
If the offensive line can continue to open holes for the running game, the Wolverines don’t need to be amazing at the receiver spot, but they need to be solid.
We knew there might be some growing pains after losing Donovan Peoples-Jones and Nico Collins and that is what we seemed to see last night. But the good news is they didn’t make any mistakes and didn’t turn the ball over. Now they just need to eliminate the drops and they should be in good shape.
