Milton will have a better game than Tanner Morgan

To be clear, I do think Joe Milton will have some growing pains in his first start, but I also think the Michigan coaches are going to rely on the running game and not force him to do too much.

Minnesota didn’t have a great run defense last season (7th in the Big Ten) and I expect the Wolverines to try and take advantage of that and one way to do that will be with Milton running the football. He’s bigger than Shea Patterson and a more willing runner.

I anticipate Milton throwing for 200 yards or so and rushing for about 50. He will make some mistakes and will probably have at least one turnover, but his night will turn out better than Morgan’s who I think is going to be hit, a lot.

If everyone is healthy and available, which is a question, Minnesota is supposed to have all five starters back on the offensive line, but even last year, they were eighth in the Big Ten in sacks allowed. Hutchinson and Paye have got to be licking their chops and just because Milton won’t have to face the U-M defense, his day will be better than Tanner Morgan’s.

But he will make some wow plays too. Jim Harbaugh said we would be pleasantly surprised by Joe Milton and we will see why Saturday night.
