Michigan will ground and pound

Looking back to last season, Michigan football was only the eighth-best team in the Big Ten in terms of rushing yards per game, while Minnesota was seventh in rush defense.

However, this should be a big advantage for the Wolverines heading into this matchup and while Joe Milton might be the shiny new toy, I expect to see more runs than passes.

The weather might not be great, but also, looks at Michigan’s stable of running backs with Zach Charbonnet, Chris Evans, Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum. In all seriousness, it could be the best position group on the team.

Charbonnet averaged nearly five yards a carry last season, but was never healthy. Now he is and even though this season is shortened, I still think he makes a push for 1,000 yards. Remember, he ran for 84 yards on 13 attempts against Alabama.

The offensive line graduated four starters, but Ryan Hayes and Andrew Stueber have experience and have been viewed as starting-level players. It’s a deep and talented group and will be facing a Minnesota defensive line that lost multiple starters from last season.

So even though Milton is getting all the headlines right now, Charbonnet, Evans and the rest of the running game will steal the show Saturday night.
