What’s the floor?

In terms of sports, the floor is talked about a lot and it’s about the worst a team or a prospect could be. Therefore, a team with a high floor is good. Ohio State and Alabama are programs with really high floors and high ceilings. But what’s Michigan’s floor in 2020?

Well, a lot of that depends on Joe Milton.

I expect him to play solid this year. Even if he isn’t a superstar, all of Harbaugh’s quarterbacks have thrown around 20 touchdowns or so, except for the disaster in 2017.

But even if Milton is wildly inconsistent and doesn’t meet the high expectations put on him, Michigan’s running game and defense should be good enough to beat Maryland, Rutgers, Michigan State and at least Penn State or Wisconsin at home or Indiana on the road.

Minnesota is a top-25 team and you could see the Wolverines losing that game, plus a loss at Indiana isn’t out of the realm of possibility, especially in a worst-case scenario, as well as a defeat to Ohio State.

Still, Michigan has been very good at home under Harbaugh and even in a nightmare scenario, I don’t see the Wolverines losing more than once at home. And if they went 4-4 in the regular season, there’s a good bet they would win their ninth game, which puts the floor at 5-4.

What about the ceiling?
