Questions that still linger

There are still questions about Michigan football and one of the biggest is at corner, where Ambry Thomas opted out and U-M also graduated former starter Lavert Hill.

Vincent Gray will start at one spot and that’s really all we know for certain. Faustin, Gemon Green, D.J. Turner, Jalen Perry, Seldon and even freshman Darion Green-Warren have all gotten mentioned for the second and third spots, yet it seems like there will be some rotation.

I fully expect Daxton Hill to play both safety and the nickel, with Paige seeing time as the third safety. Faustin could also see time in the nickel as well in certain formations if Michigan wants a bigger presence there but wants Hill at safety.

Whether it’s corner or safety, the talent is there, a few players just need to step up and seize those roles, which is what will likely happen in the next few weeks. And with Minnesota QB Tanner Morgan, as well as Rashod Bateman waiting, the Wolverines better be ready.

The other question mark is probably the offensive line and after Sam Webb reported that Michigan’s defensive line was dominating ($), it makes you wonder if the O-line is ready.

In regards to offensive line, practice and a game is way different. Michigan can scheme to help its tackles, who I’m not worried about anyway. The interior guys have more question marks.

Being able to run the ball will be vital early in the season. Gattis and Harbaugh don’t want Milton constantly behind the chains and a solid running game could be his best friend early on.

Throughout the offseason, I felt really good about the offensive line and the secondary too, but coming out of camp, there are still concerns that won’t be alleviated until we see what happens in actual game action.

Yet, my biggest takeaway is simply that this Michigan football team has a chance to be really good. It has few weaknesses and all the ingredients of a Big Ten title contender.
