Colin Smith

School: St. Mark’s (Texas)

Ranking: 107th overall (4-star)

Colin Smith is one of Michigan’s top priorities in the 2022 class. He has had a relationship with Michigan going all the way back to before his freshman year. He has visited Michigan either for a camp or an unofficial visit a total of three times. There is a lot of mutual interest.

Smith told me that his biggest strength is that he’s a two-way player that loves to make his teammates better. He has great size for a wing and can play the two, three, or four spot. This makes him a great fit for Juwan Howard’s positionless basketball philosophy.

Smith ranks 107th overall in the 247Sports composite but Rivals has him ranked all the way up in the top-60. I imagine when 247Sports does an evaluation on him, you will see Smith skyrocket up their rankings.

As of right now, Smith tells me the schools that are pursuing him the hardest are Michigan, Arkansas, Illinois, UNC, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, and Auburn.

It is worth noting that Stanford was mentioned as one of those schools. Smith is a current teammate of 2021 five-star Harrison Ingram who recently committed to Stanford over Michigan and Purdue.

From the couple of conversations that I have had with Smith and his coach, not only is he an elite basketball prospect, he’s a phenomenal kid off the court as well. He’s the type of guy that would fit great in the culture that Juwan Howard is looking to maintain at Michigan.

Smith has no intentions of doing a list cut until after his high school season. But as of now, Michigan basketball should be at or near the top of his list.
