Michigan Football: Ranking contenders for 4-star DT Rayshaun Benny
Michigan football and Sparty
No. 2 Michigan State: The Spartans were much farther back at one time but Mel Tucker and company have been gaining ground and as Webb writes, they have used some unique selling points such as how Benny can brand himself with the Spartans.
"“I think it was only Michigan State that did it for me… that showed me how they can build my brand,” Benny said. “I think it was just Michigan State. It might have been somebody else, but (the only one) that I could think of right now, it’s Michigan State.”"
Benny has also tweeted some Michigan State things recently, so there does seem to be more buzz there, but Michigan is still in the lead, the question is can the Wolverines close?
No. 1 Michigan: The Wolverines have been in the pole position with a number of top targets in this class such as Rocco Spindler, Drew Kendall and right in the mix with others, but they just couldn’t close it out. So that needs to happen here and Shaun Nua, the D-line coach needs to finish.
Not only is Benny a top recruit in the state but if the Wolverines miss on Rooks and then Benny, they will be scrambling at defensive tackle and that would be disappointing, since just about everyone agrees it’s a huge need in this class.
That being said, an earlier decision always seemed like a good news for Michigan football, which controls all six of his crystal ball projections and all eight of his Futurecasts from Rivals.
But things change and hopefully, Michigan can hold its place and get a commitment it desperately needs.
