3 Reasons Michigan Football will have an elite defense in 2020
McGrone will be a star in the middle
Michigan is going to have a few guys with first-round potential on this defense and one of them is linebacker Cameron McGrone.
McGrone wasn’t a full-time starter until a few games into last season but he played in 11 games total, has 65 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
The linebacker was highly touted coming out of high school and looks like he will be the closest thing Michigan football has had to Devin Bush Jr. He’s at least similar in the fact that he’s a true three-down linebacker.
He might not be quite on the same level as Bush, but he will prove to be an elite defender and with Josh Ross next to him, the Wolverines will have one of the best pairings in the country.
It might seem optimistic, but with a pass rush and elite athletes like Hill and McGrone, this defense is better positioned than it has been to truly compete.
The truth is, even the best defenses are going to allow points and at times even, lots of yards. It’s the nature of the game. That’s why you need defenders who will make the game-changing plays — the sacks, the interceptions, the pass deflections, the important tackles — that’s what being an elite defense is all about and this year, the Wolverines have the tools to be just that — elite.
