5 Bold predictions for Michigan Football’s offense in 2020
The real Zach Charbonnet runs for 1,000 yards
Last season, we never really got to see the real Zach Charbonnet because he was never fully healthy. His carries were limited early in the year after he got a bunch against Army and you could tell he was just banged up.
But in practices leading up to fall camp, coaches have raved about him. He’s 100 percent now and the former top-50 recruit is ready to make a major impact for Michigan football in 2020.
In the Citrus Bowl against Alabama he racked up 84 yards on 13 carries and that’s the back we will see this year, only even better. Here’s what Jay Harbaugh said Tuesday about his progress to Chris Balas of The Wolverine ($):
"“I’ve seen Zach take a step forward in that regard. He’s even faster than he was before. He’s running great, feeling great. I would expect him to take another step forward.”"
While Charbonnet wasn’t himself last season, he was still darn good, averaging 4.9 yards per attempt and scoring 11 touchdowns.
This season, behind an offensive line that will be better than expected, Charbonnet is really going to shine and there’s a good chance he will average 100 yards a game this year. The biggest challenge will be getting enough touches cause the running back room is loaded.
However, the Wolverines have needed a truly elite, bell-cow running back and Charbonnet is that guy. This season, he will prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt.
