Michigan Football: 3 Teams Wolverines need to schedule in nonconference

Clemson Tigers
If you want to be the best you must beat the best. Everyone knows this is true, but yet they want to shy away from competition.
This is not saying the Wolverines have shied away from the best, but right now Clemson is the gold standard outside of Alabama, so let’s play them.
The first argument is going to be, but we can’t even beat Ohio State and yes currently that is true. But we get to play them every year, why not take our shot at another great team.
Clemson and Michigan have never played on the football field and that is a shame. We need to make this happen. The Tigers might not have the history that the Wolverines have, but they are where we want to see Michigan get to sooner than later.
Why not bring in the Tigers to Ann Arbor and head to Clemson. Besides being an underdog, what is the downside to the game? Afraid the Wolverines might get blown out could be one, but that would be a pretty weak excuse.
If Michigan football wants an easy schedule, the Wolverines need to join the SEC and play the second to last week of the year. Then they would get to play an FCS opponent so the conference can protect them for their biggest rival.
But this isn’t the SEC and they aren’t protecting their big names, so why not go out and get one of the best teams in the country to come play in Ann Arbor. There would be no excuses needed after playing Clemson. Either you are good enough to compete with the best or you aren’t.
Admittedly it still seems like a long way until Michigan is on top of college football again, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t want it to play against the best out there.
Playing Clemson would be a great opponent to play and one team we have never seen play the Wolverines. There was some chatter that they were exploring playing each other. This is one rumor we hope is true.
